Soldier Life: Many Must Fall - hardcover book published by the Traer Historical Museum in 2008 with the help of Civil War enthusiast Jay McCann of Marshalltown, Iowa. His research in the footnotes of the text is invaluable. The museum reprinted the journal “Soldier Life” (1907) of northern Tama county Civil War veteran B.F. Thomas, and Peter Wilson (brother of “Tama Jim” Wilson) letters which had been reprinted by Iowa Journal of History & Politics in 1942. These diaries and narratives gave a unique insight to the Wolf Creek Rangers, a group of 10 men from northern Tama county (before Traer existed) serving together in the 14th Iowa, Company G. The Wolf Creek Rangers were B.F. Thomas, Edmund McClaury, Peter Wilson, John Gaston, John Felter, John Espy McKune, Eleazar Stoakes, Dewitt Southwick, Mathew Clark, and Robert Clark.
