We're glad you're here!
Whether you're a visitor, current resident, or prospective business or home owner, enjoy exploring why we think Traer is a great place to live, work and play....why we'd like you to "Wind up in Traer".
Traer is conveniently located in Tama county in Central Iowa at the intersection of Highways 63 and 8. We're a short 20 minute drive south of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area and less than an hour and a half away from Des Moines, Cedar Rapids or Iowa City.
Visitors take advantage of our many attractions, local events and recreational activities. Our famous winding stair is a favorite place for photographers; auto aficionados don't miss our annual car cruise; and many have watched the sun rise from our golf course. Of current excitement are the thousands of salt and pepper shakers at our Shaker Gallery. This is the Midwest's largest collection; be sure to stop by to see it - it's Amazing!
Calling Traer home means being part of an active community. Our youngest residents are involved in many school-related activities, as well as church and other organizations' functions. Naturally, our businesses are owned by the more mature folks, but they too have fun...everything from art classes to hot-air ballooning to snowmobiling. The one activity that nearly every resident does is volunteer...whether helping at our care facility, being a Scout leader, or organizing the hot dog eating contest at our annual Winding Stair Festival.
There are many great benefits for new residents and business owners when they become a part of Traer. Lower taxes, quality utilities and city services, a superb educational system, real estate ranging from home lots to historic houses to commercial buildings to industrial complexes, excellent healthcare facilities and so much more.
